Updating from Gramps 4.2.8 to latest version

(migrating Gramps version 4.2.8 on Windows 10)

I got a new computer and haven’t used Gramps in a while. The old computer has Gramps version 4.2.8 and is running Windows 10. I have a lots of pictures and families in Gramps. How is the best way to bring the file up to date?

Welcome back, the easiest way is to make a full backup with media in Gramps 4.2.8 and then restore the backup in Gramps 6.0.6 on the new computer.

In case you have a very old system that creates .gpkg files, you can create an empty Family Tree on your new system and then “Import” the old .gpkg into it. Easy when you know how but it took me quite some time to find the instructions :-).
