Every time I change a persons “Place” of birth or death, the program auto-changes the other.
For example, I have a John Doe born in Newberry and died in Lawrenceville. If I change the born to Gwinnett and click ok, the died location will also change to Gwinnett.
This only happens when you share the place in both events. Then if you edit the location, you change the shared record and it shows in both events.
You must be careful to select a place. In case it doesn’t exist, create a new place for the new event.
If your intent is to change an already referenced place in an existing event, first detach the place from the event (usually a - button) then attach another place by selecting it.
You can also drag’n’drop a different Place overtop the Place in the Event Editor. It is a bit faster than detaching/removing a Place from the Event and using the Place Selector again.
Use the clipboard to store a ‘palette’ of Places if you are going to do a bunch of Events in the same Places. (Such as when doing data entry for a large Family with the same birthplace or in the same Cemetery.)
When you create the first Event in that Place, drag the Place to the Clipboard before closing the Event Editor.
Or, if you are going to use a bunch of nearby places from a locality (within a township, for example) then expand the Township in your Place Category view, do an extended select and use the Ctrl-cCopy keybinding. All the Places will be added to the Clipboard and the Clipboard will be brought to front.
(Advanced hint, the experimental Relationship category CardView allows places to be updated with drag’n’drop without having to open the Event Editor for each event.)
