Using the Forms Gramplet

I am new to Gramps as well as the Forms gramplet. When using the forms, I have not been able to find any was to add census information into the heading page . I am only able to add info into the details. Is that something that will come later or am I missing something??

Thanks

Mile

In my experience it depends on the census definition. I am able to add
heading information for all U.S. federal census forms, but not for some
state census forms. I have no experience with non-U.S. forms, so I
would have to look at the definitions to determine whether heading
information is included for them.

In order to be able to help you it would be beneficial if you could
exactly which Census you are trying to import data into.
Although there are standard Forms they might not exactly fit what you
want and mine are heavily customised.

I am running linux zorin 18.1 with gramps 6.0.8 and just recently added the form graplet. Right now I am only working with us census records, specifically the 1850 census. I used the attribute of US1950 in the source, All of the us census are the same, with the attribute set according to the year.

Anything Missing?

Can you identify which of these is giving you the problem assuming you have used the pre-installed 1850 US Census

Yes those are the exact images I get when I edit or add a census, such as the US, Census, 1950. It’s the heading tab that I have a problem with. The heading tab reveals that titles of the heading items line by line but I am unable to edit any of the line items, to reflect the data from census page that I am working from. That is my current issue. Adding/Editing people into the census for is great, I think the heading data is also important. How do I edit the heading’s??

Mike

You may be clicking too far to the left. For each key in the heading,
you must click to the right of the longest key on the same line as the
key you want to edit. I’ve learned to be careful with the 1950 census
because the longest key (Incorporated place or township) is much longer
than the other keys and it is easy to click too far to the left on the
other keys. The best way to judge is to be sure to click directly below
the “Value” column heading for each key.

Think I understand so looking at my example Headings
Key Value
NARA Publication 1234
The text under the heading Key is not editable within the Form

You just enter Data under the heading Value by selecting with a single
left click anywhere to the right of built in text

To edit the available Key Field you have to do this by editing the .xml
file .local/share/gramps/gramps60/plugins/Form/form_us.xml
please make a copy of this file before you try modifying
And/or you could put your personal version of the the census into the
custom.xml file.
Hope this helps

You need to play around with this before you commit to lots of work on
your tree suggest you create a sample/test tree

WOW! I would never have thought of that. I normally click at the right edge of a lable to access the input slot, but trying this, I have to click at the very far right of the whole display area for each line. But regardless, It is working now. Thanks for the help.

Have a great week end!!

Mike

I try to aim to click somewhere below the “al” in value to be sure. also
you need to click to select the correct key and then again to open for
editing

Thank you, everything is working perfectly now that my hat band has been loosened! You have been a great help to an old man. Have a great weekend
