Some Tags are sometimes not appearing in the Discourse menus

I was trying to apply the supertool-script tag to a thread in the Development category. However, that Tag does not appear in the Tags menu. Nor does it appear in the search-as-you-type filtering.

And when the term is an exact match, then “No matches found” appears.

It does not seem to match the " site setting max tags in filter list which defaults to 30" reported in the “Tags not appearing in tag dropdown” thread of the Discourse support forum. But the tag count has passed 30… at 45. So increasing the Max is worth a try.

I’ve increased the settings to 10 and 50.

Thank you.

As feared, the `supertool-script’ tag still refuses to appear for that thread.

I will raise an issue (topic 321674) on the support forum for Discourse.

Moin Kluges Köpfchen asks:

Have you limited the use of the tag or the tag group to certain categories, since you have been able to use it in that category?

I can’t see any tag restrictions set in the Help, Ideas or Development categories.

Noticed (when clicking the All tags hamburger in the left sidebar) that the supertools-script tag has been moved into a Third Party Addons Group – perhaps that Tagging Group has some conflict with the Developer category?

Also noticed that the forms-addon tag only had one use and that Topic also had the forms tag. So removed the single use. Can that Tag be deleted?

The Third Party Addons group contains tags with the parent tag third-party-addons. I don’t see any restrictions on using these tags.

I’ve removed the form-addons tag. We can use forms instead. Likewise I removed hack because hacks is more widely used.

I’ve also removed the gramps-web tag. It has its own category now.

Shall I consolidate the others too so that you can delete those single-use tags?

Yes but are those made in tag groups?

Yes! That was the problem. The Tag is part of our site’s Third Party Addons Group. So I need to add a Third Party Addons tag before the supertool-script tag can be accepted by the tagging interface.

This is exactly backwards — if the feature is tool intended to be a time saver. I have to add tags twice and in a specific order. This is RPN for tagging.

If instead, it automagically added the parent tag group when the child tag was selected, that would be a time saver. Or if the child tags showed in the selector when the Parent tag Group was entered, the interface would basically have hints. (And selecting the Child tag should, again, add the Parent group.)

Media Verify is an addon tool.
Media Manager is a tool in core.

I’m unsure of the purpose of the media-records and media-download tags.

Well, those 3 tags are in 2 topics that already have the media-record tag already.

And those tools were not the solution in either Topic
