While we are on the subject of talking about keys or shortcuts, one idea for an addition could be when selecting records from a view, it could be interesting to have a shift or ctrl key that instead of adding a tag to the selected records, would remove that tag from the selected records when clicking in the Tags icon of the main window ribbon on the tag with that key pressed
5.2 allows for removing tags from a selected set of records.
After selecting a batch of records, going to the Tag icon allows for âAdd tagâŚâ or âRemove tagâŚâ and the userâs list of tags.
I wish the options Add and Remove could be sub menus under the Tag icon. With a long list of tags it is a chore to navigate the list down to the remove options.
But for tags, I wish you could add or remove tags with right click on items in lists in any view on any items that support it.
I use tags enough where it would speed me up.
I have tags for marking people that needs more information, Or mark sources I have added to Gramps, but have not yet added the information for to the tree that I will do later.
So I am adding and/or removing tags almost every time I do stuff in Gramps.
Perhaps a more pliable tool would be a better target.
Say that you had a palette tool (similar to a clipboard) and you could âloadâ it (with secondary objects, tags, and privacy on/off, text strings from descriptions, gender, confidence, et cetera.)
While the tool was in paint mode, clicking an object would paint the object with whatever is in the palette but is currently missing from the object.
In the opposite clean mode, clicking would remove any instances of those items.
I wonder if a âAttribute Pass Throughâ tag wouldnât alleviate the Tag over-population problem? Say that, like the Quickview gramplets lets you choose a Quickview report, there were tag types that that looked for a selected Attribute name and/or value.
That would let seldom used Tags be converted to Attributes without losing the accessibility of Tags. And you could take advantage of the Attributes gramplet and the Tag filtering in the Filter Gramplet.
I see Attributes as part of a Personâs record (or other Gramps object). An Attribute would be something passed on to a cousin wanting their branch of the tree.
Tags I see as something for my own use as I work on the database.
The only enhancement I see that would be helpful is to have Tags unique to parts of the database. A Tag created in People views stay with people records, etc. Tags created in Dashboard would be universal. This would shrink tag lists for selection.
I have set a naming system so related tags group together in the list. Universal tags start with ~, other tags start with their ID prefix; i:, c:, p:, etc
I am very much with Dave on this one I use Tags mainly in Graph View and
absolutely do not want them as Attributes, can maybe see a reason why
others might but as I have said before if you do modify the software
please include the âno thanksâ option

Hm would be an easier to implement and maybe good enough improvement at first for me to just have it more accessible with right click menu inn all views.
