Add Tag refreshing wildfire

I am pruning a Family Tree of persons born after 1900 to share as a stress test.

However, I just filtered for those people with births “bet 1900 and 2050” (then had to ratchet down the limits from 50years to 1 year) and realized that deleting the people would leave a lot of orphaned Events. But if I deleted the Events first, the People filter wouldn’t work anymore.

So I created a People custom filter with that criteria and created an Event filter for Events of those people. That Filter resulted in 26109 (of 111547) found Events.

Shen I made my BIG mistake… I decided to Edit → Add Tag. It seemed to go fast and in less than a minute the Events list was filled with Red tagged rows… but the 1st column was “Last Changed” and the view is now shifting 26109 Events (1 at a time at a rate of about 7 per second) to the bottom of the list.

It is about 33 minutes in and there’s no Cancel. It will probably run for an hour.
I am afraid to use task manager to abort Gramps

I should have:

  • used the Add/Remove Tag tool to add the tag.
  • not have had the sorting set to Last Changed

Has the screen refresh been suppressed for Edit → Add tag in new releases?

Using Gramps 5.2.2 pm Fedora 37

I have used task manager to cancel a Gramps task with no damage to the data. The tree is just locked on relaunch.

I have batched tagged a filtered list of 100k people taking a minute or two. Granted, the ID was the default sort,

Yes it looks like the filtered sort is what hurt. It tagged in about a minute but then started the sort craziness that took about 70 minutes.

So I need to be careful not to have sorting on Last Changed when doing a bulk updates.
