I have currently 3 versions of gramps AIO on my Windows 10 machine, as indicated by folders:
I am currently using 5.2.3 (the latest availale). I have left the other two versions in place, mainly whilst I was checking that the newer version was working OK after upgrading and never got round to deleting the previous version. It’s got round to that time where I think I should delete the previous 2 versions. I was going to use the standard Windows uninstaller. I have done backups of the machine and gramps data. Is there any caveat to using the standard Windows uninstaller to delete 5.1.2 and 5.1.4? Will it interfere 5.2.3 if I remove 5.1.2 and 5.1.4 using Windows unistaller? If so, is there a better way to remove 5.1.2 and 5.1.4?
As an aside, when using Settings / Apps in Windows 10, I see 3 entries for gramps (as screenshot):
It might be nice if the version number was beside the product name (cf “Graphviz 2.44.1") at first sight rather than having to work out which is which (since the installer creates different entries for gramps and doesn’t over-write/upgrade).
I find it easy to use the uninstall application installed in each version’s program files.
c:\Program Files\
This will not delete any user files or the default database folder. To clean up previous versions, these are found in your user directory. On Windows, this would be C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\gramps
%APPDATA% will take you to the roaming directory.
In this folder there will be several folders and files that contain your settings. There will be version folders specific to previously installed versions. You can safely delete any versions older than \gramps52, your current version folder.
Not in my experience. The standard Windows procedure of using:
Settings | Apps | Installed Apps
find the relevant line
click on the three dots at the end of that line
click Unistall
Will leave your current version alone.
However, if you were to use something more sophisticated, like Revo Uninstaller, then you do have to check that it doesn’t also pick up and mark bits of your current version for removal.
EDITED TO ADD
The bullet points are for Win 11 but Win 10 will be very similar
Thanks for the replies. Helpful and reassuring. I used the standard Windows 10 Uninstall button for the two older versions of gramps and all seems to have gone well so far.
