OK, thanks, I forgot. We discussed your sheet via mail too.
I did some further reading, and found that in GEDCOM 5.5.1, you can only use the ASSO tag at the person level, not for events. Nick mentioned that too, and it means that you can create a link from yourself to your godfather, and another one from him to yourself as a godson, and that link is not connected to any event. In other words, it’s a bond that connects you forever, and is exported as:
0 @I1@ INDI
1 NAME Fred/Jones/
1 ASSO @I2@
2 RELA Godfather
In GEDCOM 7, you can still do the same, as:
0 @I1@ INDI
1 ASSO @I2@
2 ROLE GODP
And this shows a small difference, because it says GODP, which is a predefined role, making it possible to show that role in your own language.
The real fun starts here though:
0 @I1@ INDI
1 ASSO @VOID@
2 PHRASE Mr Stockdale
2 ROLE OTHER
3 PHRASE Teacher
1 BAPM
2 DATE 1930
2 ASSO @I2@
3 ROLE CLERGY
Because with this construct, you can add the association to the BAPM event. Gramps does not support this yet, but IMO this is the way to go, because it’s the new standard, and I bet that our database already supports it.
There’s another new thing here, and that’s the possibility to add an association for a person that does not exist in your tree, using a void pointer, where the PHRASE line just gives his name.
We can’t import this yet, and GEDCOM 7 has no provision for shared events, so it’s not perfect.
