A new GRAMPS for Genealogists Facebook posting (by @Antonio ) reports that the Geography navigator category is missing from his Italian Windows Linux version of Gramps 6.0
The Geography viewmodes have the longest labels of any categories.
Is there a chance the Weblate created file might have a corrupted Italian translation string? And that such a corruption would make the Navigator skip a Category?
That link shows (gramps 6 ita, on linux) so not the windows version and the response to him ask the correct question does he have the needed programs installed? Did he edit his posting after you created your message here instead of asking him?
Why does the Facebook group use the uppercase version of the Gramps name?
Eric Ledger noted on Facebook that the wiki warns of Prerequisites for the Geography view modes.
Unfortunately, none of the symptoms listed mention the Category icon being missing from the Navigator bar. The 1st symptom says “No view” but I read that as “no View Mode icon”. But I’ve never seen an OS without the mentioned libraries.
The .gpr.py for GeoAncestor addon has: OsmGpsMap 1.0 requirement. What would be needed for the Addon Manager to test for the gir prerequisite?
requires_gi=[('OsmGpsMap', '1.0')],
Like the following “Requires” dialog for the “Place Coordinate Gramplet view” (which is ambiguous about whether it is a ‘view’ or ‘gramplet’ and the Category where it would live)
Install
Installing the missing Prerequisite libraries and re-starting Gramps resolved the problem. The Geography category icon is now available in his Navigator sidebar.
@Antonio describes his system and the solution:
Ubuntu Mate 1.22.6. I had to install: gir1.2-osmgpsmap-1.0 and libosmgpsmap-1.0-0
