Import gedcom vers tableur puis export tableur -> Gedcom

Gramp 6

:united_states: Please try again. What is your question?

I’m sorry, but I don’t know how to make all of this work… I’m a beginner.
My question concerns spreadsheet-style import-export.
My tree is very small (maternal branch only, without ancestors of spouses’ families).
By default, the export exports only the selected individuals: here, I want all of them, to obtain the CSV and possibly modify it before importing it again and creating a modified GEDCOM. There is no option to select “all individuals” instead of “selected individuals” when no extraction or filtering is performed.

If you can help me, thank you…

I am completely lost. It is unclear why you want to switch repeatedly between CSV and GEDCOM. It is likely others are also confused about the purpose. So none of us can guess what to say in response.

And without effort, I can think of at least 4 different sections of Gramps that output CSV. Each uses different filtering and only output subsets of the data model. (The Family Trees → Export is the most complete of those. But the GEDCOM export supports more of the database fields than CSV.)

As an expert of cryptic switch between french and english or extra digresions… I am lost too !

Hello,
I found a solution by discovering a “Everyone” filter option in the Filter… function.
It’s a shame one has to search for it independently.
Exporting to CSV and then to GEDCOM allows a former database manager to build proper CSV files and thus resume a partially completed GEDCOM. The original content appears to be corrupted by the old software, so it’s better to start fresh with clean CSV files—modified before re-exporting to GEDCOM via Gramps.

This solution was not fully adopted in the end, as my understanding of Gramps has evolved to the point where a near-complete re-entry seems necessary today. I’m currently learning data entry in Gramps at the same time. It’s taking longer because the original data was poorly structured from the start… so it was better to start over.

Initially, a “branching node” (a specific family) is enough for me to move forward slowly but more reliably. I’ll see later if it’s possible to recover some data (the skeleton of the tree: individuals, families, and even places). I treated the old software like a notepad, since I couldn’t always find where to place things: I now need to reformat everything in Gramps (sources, citations, etc.). We make do as best we can.

Thank you for everyone’s guidance when it helps… I was off to a bad start, but things are improving now.

LibreOffice (Writer) seems easier for generating my own notes (transcriptions, etc.). I haven’t found a way to launch LibreOffice directly from a Gramps note. One can open a permanent link (copied beforehand) in a note, but not embed a hypertext link in the note (i.e., open any external software from Gramps). It’s a shame… I have to go through a “complex setup” even though it’s powerful in many ways, just to do something simple: I currently enter the Writer file name in the note and launch LibreOffice separately. I haven’t found a better solution. The Gramps documentation seems very improvable, I think. I should mention that my Gramps is version 6.0.5, poorly installed on top of version 5.1.5. I haven’t taken the time to reinstall it properly yet. I had previously installed several 5.x versions in parallel without issues, so I didn’t suspect anything. I prefer to focus on my “small” allied family. I’m tired of spending more time on pure IT work than on genealogy… and this isn’t the first time I’ve had to re-enter data in the last 20 years. I’ve dedicated at least 20 years of my life to this as a developer. In retirement, I hoped I’d be done with it… and could finally enjoy a hobby. That’s not really the case.

Best regards,

GF

Hello.

I don’t understand. Why re-enter data when you obviously have a family tree? Do you absolutely need to use the GEDCOM or CSV format to store your data? If so, why?

Best regards,
Jérôme
