Hi, I want to add few media files to lists of 3-5 people in my tree. I can create the media reference first to avoid duplication of files but It seems I need to open each person and add each media file one by one. So instead of selecting n media files and m people I need to go n*m times through the selection process. Is there a smarter way?
After you add it to the first Gallery, open the Gramps clipboard and drag it from the Gallery to the clipboard. Then dragging from the clipboard to Galleries in other Edit Object dialogs will share the reference.
Copying to the clipboard from the Media shows a “Media” Type. the “Media Ref” on the clipboard was dragged from a Gallery and includes “Shared Information” data.
You can share one-by-one using the Share icon in the Gallery too. But when doing 3-5 instances, it is faster with the Clipboard.
If it is a group photo, alternatively you can use the Photo Tagging addon gramplet to set rectangles (that will be saved as thumbnails) for each person.
Add the Gramplet with the Addon Manager. Add the gramplet to the sidebar or bottombar of the Media category. Then undock it and activate the People category. After dragging a new rectangle, you can drag a person from the People category to the blank row in the Person column. You can also use the Select context menu option too. But the opening the Person Selector dialog means a lot of extra navigating.
Thanks a lot for you quick reply! The clipboard function is what I was looking for and in fact this helps a lot to speed up.
Ideally (for my use case) the edit and paste would work for multiple entities in one go.
The photo tagging looks great - will for sure use it when I have group photos. For now I am stuck with document scans
Cheers
