Horizontal Descendant Tree

Greetings! Is there a way to print a descendant tree that is oriented horizontally instead of vertically? In other words, I would like to create a descendant tree with the oldest ancestor at top and successive generations in each row below.

Thanks for your assistance.

GRAMPS: AIO64-5.1.4-1

I’m somewhat confused because the description and the terms horizontally & vertically are in a bit of conflict. So I am going to start with restatement. You’ll have to post a revised restatement if I’ve misunderstood.

How can a box chart be created of the descendants of a specific ancestral couple with each generation as a row below.

There are a wide variety of tools and reports that might be what you’re seeking. Like the Descendant Tree portion of the Addon:GenealogyTree addon.

Maybe you’re looking for a text format or a more compact or more broad diagram. Several tools have options and will allow selection between horizontal and vertical representations and flipping the ordering. You’ll have to let us know more precisely what you’re seeking.

Hello thanks for your assistance. You have restated my question properly. I am now in need to assistance on how to get the Addon:Genealogy Tree. It does not seem to be available when I check for addon updates.

Do your settings match the highlighted Third party addons management section?

Yes, as far as I can tell my settings match. I appreciate if you can share a screenshot showing the Genealogy Tree addon highlighted in the addon list. Somehow I am missing something. Thanks again for your help.

Have you installed any add-ons yet? I am unclear as to whether you cannot find this add-on to install … or ANY add-ons.

That GenealogyTree addon is a collection that lists as its separate elements. It has a Prerequisite because this report ONLY outputs LaTex format files.

The collection contains 5 report add-ons that share a common GenealogyTree subfolder and “Gramps plugin registration” ( treeplugins.gpr.py ) Python file. If you install even 1, the others install too.

(If you decide that you do not like some of the reports but still like others of the 5, they cannot be un-installed separately. However, if you have the Plugin Manager Enhanced addon, then you can HIDE the ones you don’t want showing up in the Gramps interface.)

Thanks for the response. I have another question: I generated the LaTex file and I opened it with a text editor, but all I get are lines of text. Do I need to use a different software to open it up to see the graphical output or is there something else I need to do?
Thanks again for all of your help.

Since you are using the AIO installer that means Windows. Go to the Prerequisites. Download and install MiKTeX. There are some key instructions that you should follow.

When you print the LaTeX file for the Gramps report, make sure that the Open with default viewer is checked. This will bring up the tex file with all the instructions. There will be a Green Arrow. Clicking this will actually create the graph file.
