My extensive family tree was online a few years back and used the GedHTree v.2 80 It was interactive and you would click from son to father act. I need a program so I can edit it and wish to put it on line. Where do I start? I’M a little on the befuddled side here folks. My name is George Sparks
A thread on Stack Exchange discusses the background of GedHTree. You are needing to migrate from GedHTree because there is no longer any way to register that product. The author, Gary Welker passed in 2015 and the alternative registrar (DigiBuy) closed in 2008.
I was looking because the kind of source files you have will determine your options. Since the documentation is gone, I have to make a lot of assumptions. GedHTree features included the ability to show 5 images. So it must not have been using pure GEDCOM to drive sites. It appears to process GEDCOM to produce a web of interconnected HTML webpages.
And that you probably had to do a LOT of tweaking when generating your original hosted site. (Although both the original site and a support page have evaporated, You can still read some info via the Wayback Machine.)
That means that, no matter which solution you eventually pursue, a significant amount of rework is inevitable. Certainly it will require re-attaching any media.
I hope that you have the original GEDCOMs. With that you have a starting point with any Genealogy software, not just Gramps. If you just have the GedHTree files, you are going to have to scrape it all back into a database.
The Gramps suite offers several Web Solutions
The most familiar way for you to approach this with Gramps will be to import the GEDCOM into Gramps and re-connect the media files. Then leverage the Narrated Web Site Report process to publish your genealogy data in a similar fashion to what GedHTree did. Where the files can be uploaded to a server or shared on a DVD or Flash Drive.
If you are technically adept, Gramps Web is a new option for running a collaborative genealogy website.
This page (and its links) looks like it might be a replica of version of the original GedHtree site:
On that site the fixes/revisions page only goes as far as v2.09 but there’s another version of the fixes/revisions page here:
which goes as far as v2.80. That seems to be the last version. It seems to be available here:

EDITED TO ADD: except it’s not, that download link is dead. It is available here though:

I still have a working Win XP machine. Am I tempted to investigate this software?
Hi George,
As I indicated in my previous post I have a working Win XP machine. I also had some spare time this morning so I was tempted to investigate GedHtree, albeit superficially.
I’ve learnt that GedHtree needs a GEDCOM file to get started so please may I ask, what software were / are you using to generate the GEDCOM file you use(d) with GedHtree?
Knowing that will give people here a better idea of how to help you become less befuddled.
The program I’M using to make the family tree work and interactive is (GedHTree v.2 80 / ght280.exe ) and it is 706 KB. I’M not very program savvy to say the least. I can send you the family tree and program if you would like as well. It all worked on my windows 7 and now windows 11. I just can’t edit it act. Thank you for the reply as well. Sincerely - George Sparks
The family tree consist of HTML Document and GIF Files as well.
OK, I need to have another look at GedHtree, I must have missed something because before I could get it to create a tree I had to load a GEDCOM file, which already contained tree data, and once I had a tree in GedHtree I didn’t see how to edit it.
Let me ask my question in another way. Is GedHtree the only family tree software you use / have ever used? If not, what other family tree software do you have?
Not sure if this still applies but I just seen the email. GedHTree v.2 80 is all Iever used. Not sure what if any other program was used before it.

Who provided the original GEDCOM file that you use with GedHTree?
Can you please open the GEDCOM file in the plain text editor and copy the first seven lines here, this will show which program created the GEDCOM file. The next six lines typically shows who created the file.
Reading your original message, to start I suggest downloading and installing Gramps
https://github.com/gramps-project/gramps/releases/download/v6.0.5/GrampsAIO-6.0.5–1_win64.exe
Then read Getting started , next create a family tree to import your GEDCOM file.
Once you have done this, you are ready to start using the various reports available and based on your first message the Narrated Web Site report maybe what you need?
Any questions please ask here.

Now back to trying to answer your question…
As already explained in other posts, if you install Gramps on your Windows 11 computer it will be able to read and import the family tree data that is in the GECOM file you have been using with GedHtree. Once you have the data in Gramps you will be able to edit it.
HOWEVER, learning how to use Gramps will take time and patience, especially given that you have said:
I suggest to start by watching this video about how to download and install Gramps. NB the version of Gramps used in the video is an old one but you should still be able to follow it and use it to guide you through the installation of the current version, which is v6.0.5:
Once you have installed Gramps, try this video about how to import a file into Gramps. NB the type of file that is imported in this video is not a GEDCOM file but the principle is the same:
