System Requirements / Options to handle big family tree

OS: Ubuntu 22.04
Gramps: Latest 5.x

Hello

My father has a family tree made with FTW (2005) and we want to host it on GrampsWeb. We followed exactly the steps to host the GrampsWeb on a DigitalOcean Droplet.

We exported the whole tree to GEDCOM which is now around 100MB

  1. Attempt
Import them into GrampsWeb, but it never finished.

  2. Attempt
Install Gramps locally and tried to import it. It took 8 hours to import the tree. Then using the GrampsWebSync plugin, which then also failed when it tries to figure out what records needs to be synced.

Do you have any recommendation how we can make such a tree handlable?

I guess continuing using FTW 2005 will not be an option, as export / import via GEDCOM is unusable. As we have now the tree at least in Gramps, are there better ways to bring that tree into GrampsWeb and later also make it convenient to update/sync entries?

What droplet do we need to host such a tree in the web? The tree is around 620’000 entries.

You can in Gramps Desktop create a backup (Gramps XML), upload the backup file and import it in Gramps Web.

Ok, I will try that and give feedback. Thx.

I had the exactly same problem with my tree (70 MB GEDCOM). Finally the XML-Export in Gramps-Desktop and Import in GrampsWeb (in my case the hosted GrampsHub) was successful (after solving some trouble linking the media files). The sync between Desktop and Web never worked.
