What method of printing were you attempting?
The most common is to a file, PDF or OpenTextDocument. The first attempt at this type of print job defaults to the Gramps program directory which is protected. Changing the output location to a user directory (like the desktop) often solves this issue. Future print jobs to files will remember this location.
