Anyone know what Discourse does with the User parameter in URLs?

Everytime I copy a link from a Discourse thread, it appends my username parameter (?u=emyoulation) to the URL.

Does anyone know of what use this is?

Is it some sort of tracking ‘cookie’?

(I assume that the ?fbclid= gobblygoop that Facebook now appends onto every external link in their threads is part of their tracking system for billable click-throughs. So that normally gets trimmed in any of my Internet Address records in a Gramps Tree.)

It earns you a Discourse Badge. With the badge and $5 you can buy a cup of coffee.

Remember the good old days when you had to be REALLY quick to turn over the coffee cup while being seated to prevent being served a free cuppu?
