Where to put source information for images/PDFs

When you add images and PDFs, which “Source Information” menu do you use; the one above the image/PDF or the one below under “shared information?” And what is the difference between the two and any pros and cons of using one over the other.

Yes, fairly new Gramps user still wrapping my head around the citations, notes, sources, repositories.

(Gramps Version 6.0.3 Flatpak distribution and Debian container on a Chromebook)

Personally I created a source (its source) to which I attached the media (see here)

The S/C in the shared information would apply to the image/pdf in all instances. When you add the media record to a gallery for a Person, event, citation, etc, you are given the opportunity to add a S/C to the media record above the Preview pane. Any S/C applied here would only apply to the media record and the record that is referencing it.

If you were to access the media record from within the Media view you will notice that the only S/C is the one found in the Shared Information tabs.

The same is true for events. Any information entered in the shared information tabs gets applied to the event with every person sharing the event. The Reference Information tabs would apply to the individual person sharing the event. And again, looking at the event from the Events view, only the shared tabs are presented.

Thanks. I have been using the one under “Shared Information” for images/PDF and that does seem to be more in line with what I want. I want my citations and notes to a photo/PDF to “ride” with it wherever it goes in Gramps.
