Where do Gramps users gather on other social media?

I am not a great lover of Social Media. (I frantically avoid chatting in real life. So the appeal of doing so online is beyond me.) But Gramps users sharing problem and solution information is important to Gramps evolving. And social media is a huge part of that. We try to maintain a list where users can and have gathered.

Several user have suggested that Facebook’s policies have forced them to look elsewhere. What are some new places that we haven’t listed yet.

  • Mastodon.social has a #gramps tag with some activity. (Found a couple potential profiles that didn’t pan out.)

Are you active on another platform with a Gramps community? If so what are they and how do you find other other Gramps users?

I don’t use it so I’ve no idea how valuable or otherwise it is, but it has turned up in searches I’ve made about Gramps:

My son suggested gramps when I was looking for a new genealogy program, this took me to this discourse.group which has been very good. I follow the Facebook group too but there is very little traffic there. I have learned so much just reading the posts from the experts that participate here. Thank you.

Interesting that the AI missed a big one:

BlueSky at ~27.8 million users, but an open protocol so that users of Mastodon and BlueSky connect fairly easily, and growing very rapidly.

Because of their policy decisions, I personally will no longer user any Meta product (Facebook, WhatsApp, Threads, Instagram) nor any X product.

WeChat is highly popular in China, and required a referral from someone in China when I last attempted to use it about 10 years ago. I’m personally not interested in the app because of that.

Discourse and github are sufficient for my needs – I’m not exactly thrilled about chatting IRL, either  – but I have been online in some form for multiple decades, starting with UUCP, IRC and BBSs; doing so can help connect people, at least a little bit.

the AI ignored the 1 million directive and actually chose a cutoff of 100 million users. But Mastodon was the service that prompted this question. So it was added manually. Just as BlueSky was added from your response.
