Translation: Extract .po file from Weblate for testing

Is there a set of steps anywhere?

This is what I’ve figured out for Linux.

  1. Go to the Gramps project on Weblate
  2. Click on your language in the list
  3. In the second (lower) menu click Files & Download original translation files as ZIP file[1]
  4. Extract the downloaded zip file
  5. Find the translation file (e.g. ga.pot) in extracted /gramps-project/gramps/po/ folder
  6. Open it in (e.g.) poedit & compile it as gramps.mo
  7. Copy this file to /usr/share/locale/<YOUR-LOCALE>/LC_MESSAGES, overwriting the existing file. You will need root access. It wouldn’t hurt to back this up first.
  8. Launch Gramps and you should see your translation

  1. Despite the name this not the ‘original’ file ↩︎

Those steps look correct to me. The translation file will be a .po file (e.g. ga.po). The gramps.pot file is the template.
