I’ve set up GrampsWeb via Docker on a Raspi 4 successfully to see how I can incorporate my active research methods before sharing. I use docx and xlsx for research notes/overviews, these media files sync without problem, however they are of no use as those formats aren’t supported on GrampsWeb (as far as I can confirm). Does anyone have any info to which document and table formats are supported on Gramps Web or suggestion on how I could continue to use formatted tables for research documentation, planning and logging?
You can download the office documents, edit them, and upload them again. Of course, that’s not a convenient workflow, but in case you are using office documents in Gramps Desktop and editing them in a different app: that’s also not a good workflow because editing changes their checksum without Gramps knowing about it.
In my opinion, office documents should be avoided as much as possible.
Some reasons (apart from the ones mentioned above):
- Those formats are less future proof than PDF, text files, or Gramps notes
- They are not accessible to the full-text or semantic search
My personal choice for research documentation, planning and logging is to use Gramps notes and Gramps Web tasks (which are a combination of Gramps sources, notes, and media).

Thanks for the input, David. Guess I need to separate how I research from the presentation and sharing: I like the look and feel of GrampsWeb/Gramps too much to not be flexible enough to alter my workflow
