I found a newspaper article that lists the attendees at a 1939 wedding party. I can’t figure out how to efficiently enter the same Event and Citation to each attendee’s profile, short of repeatedly entering the same Event and Citation.
I’ve read the Gramps Manual item covering the Forms Gramplet, and it does not appear to cover this sort of Event. Or maybe I am just not understanding the instructions. Suggestions welcome.
You can share an existing event (or citation) by clicking the Share icon (instead of the Add icon) and selecting it from the object selector dialog that appears.
But if you are going to be sharing an Event (or Citation or Place, etc.) with multiple People or Families, then it is faster and easier to use the clipboard. Just drag’n’drop to and from the clipboard.
For shared events, be certain to set the Role for each successive person. When initially adding an Event, Gramps assumes the Person will hold the Primary role.
Thank you very much. The Clipboard seems like the best method for entering data to attendees at an Event like a party or reception.
Just to be clear on assigning Roles to wedding party attendees, the marrying couple is assigned the Role of “Primary” in the Family Event, related family members are given the Role of “Family” in their Person Event, and non-related guests are given the Role of “Friend” (or “Unknown”) in their Person Event. Does that sound correct?
You are correct. You can choose any of the predefined roles, or create new roles that fit better. But be aware that several reports only list events, that are either “primary” or “family”.
It is probably better to reserve Family role to events in the Family Editor.
Like “Primary” role in the Person Editor, the “Family” role has special meaning to Gramps. It means that the Bride and Groom are central players in the Event.
Gramps has no logic for understanding of roles other than Primary, Family and Unknown. Those arecfor your edification.
