There have been several threads about PIP only working for Windows to manage prerequisite Python module installation. And disabling the “Allow Gramps to install required Python modules” setting in the Addon&Manager for other OSes.
Is there an opportunity here? Could the Python Module management be another type of Plugin?
It has taken a lot of iterations to make the “Prerequistes Checker” (“PChk” for short) dashboard gramplet addon perform to expectations. Maybe the PIP install is a better match for a feature in that Gramplet? And that it could evolve to leverage installer plugins for macOS and the various Linux distributions? So if you had a module installer plugin compatible with your OS, the PChk would have install buttons.
