Relationship to Home Person stops after Seventeenth Great Grandparent

I recently added several generations and Family Tree work just fine - I confirm Ancestor and Descendant charts report linkage between Home Person and all added family members. However, the stated Relationship between these elders and the Home Person stops working after the Seventeenth Great Grandparent. I won’t show the Eighteenth GGP or any other relationships beyond that point and only cites “Not Related”. Is this a known bug or a feature limitation?

I would like to easily identity the degree of relationship going back as far as possible in a tree with over 2,000 individuals and 28 generations. Check and Repair Database found no errors. Thank you!

Does it work for you in the Gramps Desktop program?

See here

In the current version, it should actually work until 20 generations.

I’m hesistant to completely remove the limit as the complexity (and computational cost) increases exponentially. It would be useful if somebody could benchmark this, but for a bigger tree (there are people running Gramps Web with > 100,000 individuals).

We could also make it configurable.

A configuration option would be great and allow for user testing beyond 20 generations. I’m trying to show 25th GGP since it’s not that common and worth flaunting. Thanks!

If you like, feel free to open a feature request at GitHub - gramps-project/gramps-web-api: A RESTful web API for Gramps - backend of Gramps Web so this idea is not forgotten.
