New forum user problems (a bot asking me to do things)

I have signed up to use the community forum, but I am totally confused as to how to post a question. I keep getting messages from a bot asking me to do things and I try to comply but I must be misunderstanding. I have never encountered a forum like this before. Can you tell what I am doing wrong?

It sounds you started the Discourse tutorial. Once the bot starts, it can become insistant and annoying.

You can go to your account preferences and at the bottom of the Interface tab and disable it.

Thank you. I will do that. But I do not see any means to create a new post. Is there a waiting period before I can post questions?

No. But you have to have to be logged in and be in a category that allows users to post. Like “Help”

Some categories (like “Announcements” only allow admins to post)

And it is possible that starting the tutorial put you in a special “sandbox” mode. It does that so you can do its lesson exercises without actually posting.

I did click help which is how I created my original question to you. But all I can do is reply to an existing question. I don’t see a new post option which would allow me to ask a question about reports. I don’t see what I am missing. I very sorry to trouble you.

I just turned off the new user tips in your account preferences and boosted your account out of “new” status. That should help

Thank you. I believe I have successfully posted my question under Help.

Yes, you have successfully created a new thread in Help

Sorry to be pedantic but… your 1st post was a “reply” to the existing Video Tutorials thread. That was the wrong place for a question about using Discourse. So it was moved to a new thread in Feedback.
