Could you have an option either hide the Persons for filter non-match

That would be very difficult, as some people are necessary to reach others. Dropping something in the middle would be weird, and dropping whole parts of the tree just because a person near the active person doesn’t match the filter is also not intuitive (e.g. hiding all paternal ancestors because the active person’s father doesn’t match the filter).
I’ll try the saturation drop. That should be easy to do.

Yes, it would be nice to prune off parts of the tree where a filtered-out person causes a discontinuity of connected people/families.

Gramps has a Relationship Calculator, Deep connections gramplet, “Relationship between <persons>” Person filter rule (to use in combination with the Relationship graph), Relationship to home person quickview (via gramplet or pop-up)… all for determining the relationship between distant cousins. Most of the time, I copy the output from Pedigree gramplet for myself and the cousin to a wordprocessor and then reformat for printing.
