I cant seem to find a way to add a spouse to a person. All the directions point me to add Spouse under the relationship tab. or add family from the left hand menu. But non of those options seem to exist on my setup. any help would be appriciated.
I do most of my work using the Relationships category view. It works off the active person and from within the view you find them as a child in their parent’s family, a spouse in their own family/s and their own children in those families.
Across the top of the view will be the Icon tool bar. Three icons will allow you to… Add a new set of parentswith the active person as a child in the family. Add (active) person as a child to existing family. And a third icon to Add a new family with (the active) person as a parent.
Each of these icons will bring up the Family edit window where you can add the other family members by either selecting them from a list of people if their record has already been created or add them to the family as a totally new person.
From within the Relationships view, there will be icons to the right of the Parents: and Family: labels to add the active person to families as described above. Hovering your cursor over the icons will tell you their function.
You can create new families in other views that will allow you to add existing or new people to the family as either a parent or a child.
I recommend to install the FamilyTreeView (FTV) add-on. FTV is a graphical view of your data, and you can easily add a spouse (or parent, child etc) from within FTV.
Unfortunately FTV isn’t default installed, so you need to add it thru the add-on manager:
Sorry for the misunderstanding. I’m running both Gramps Desktop and Gramps Web, but doing all my work in desktop and then syncing to Gramps Web.
In Gramps Web go to Lists → Families and click the [+] in lower right corner. You can here choose an already existing person and create a family. @DavidMStraub might have further explanation
