Gramps 6 won't show all photos in a folder when i try to import into the Gallery?

Gramps 6 Win11
I am trying to insert photos into my persons Gallery, but i can only see some photos, not all in the file.
Is there some limitation in the system (size, naming, file type) that stops some photos from showing in the folder being imported from?

Can you give an example of the types it does not see for you, what extension type of file etc?

List is recognized media objects here


    "image/jpeg": "JPEG image",
    "image/tiff": "TIFF image",
    "image/png": "PNG image",
    "application/pdf": "PDF document",
    "text/rtf": "Rich Text File",
    REMOTE_MIME: "External web page",

New types can be raised as a feature request, another option is to convert to the recognized types.

In that case can you rule out if those *.jpgs that don’t display in Gramps have an issue like mentioned in the following articles?

Do you have Recent Items installed?

There is a bug with media and having the Recent Items addon installed on Gramps 6.0. Bug #13749,

Open fine in Windows, which is why i know they aren’t showing in Gramps.

No add-ons installed at this stage

How are you opening those files in Windows which programs please?

Where are the non working files from , did the non working one come from the same source?

The encoding of the .jpg used by the might not be supported or recognized, Gramps does not support the newer JPEG-XL ( see issue 0012471: Fully support the JPEG XL image format )

Can you check the image metadata (You can find these on the “Details” tab when you go to a picture’s properties. ) of those non working files and check the working one for comparison.

Wide variety of dates and original save formats, none are JPEG-XL.
Interestingly, if i re-save them as BMP they appear immediately!

Also, if I re-save them as any other JPG format, they are fine!

Must be a photo format issue.
