Gramps 6.0 and Gramps Web sync

Hello,

I installed a Gramps Web server on a Raspberry Pi 4. Everything works fine. But on my PC, I have Gramps 6.0. It’s only now (oops!) that I realize that the plugin for synchronizing the PC database with the one on the server doesn’t yet support version 6.0.

Is there a timeline for updating the plugin in question?

In the meantime, is there a way to install version 5.2.4 at the same time as version 6.0? I looked for an appimage version, but there isn’t one. I also looked at flatpack, but I can only find version 6.0.

Thanks.

Pierre

You cannot use Gramps 6.0 trees with the Gramps 5.2 version. The database schema has changed to version 21.

So, until Gramps Web Sync is available for 6.0, you should refrain from upgrading your Gramps for desktops.

Thanks for your reply. But do you know if there is a date for the plugin update?

Hi,

the problem is not (just) the plugin, first Gramps Web itself needs to be made compatible with Gramps 6. And this is currently blocked by this fix which needs to be merged and a new Gramps version released:

You can follow the current status on this page Gramps 6.0 upgrade guide - Gramps Web.

If you use the search function for “Gramps Web” and “Gramps 6.0” in the forum, you may find this thread: Gramps Web & Gramps 6.0

I have empathy - & sympathy - for you; and your problem causes more fear in me as to my futile attempts in unlocking this program, after having to replace the old Mac laptop when its battery died.
Is there someone who can explain in simple ‘baby steps’ how to fix this the problem,
I so miss adding to my genealogical data

Are you talking about installing Gramps Web in docker on a Raspberry Pi?

This section is about the much more complex “Gramps Web” hosted version. Your issue is with easier to manage original version: “Gramps for desktops”.

A step-by-step process for unlocking your Tree was just posted.
