Filter Subset of relations in a large joined tree?

(Gramp 5.1.5 on Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS)

Per the usual advice, I have all my research in a single tree file, so that all connections can be followed.

However, I have recently researched the ancestors of an induividual who married a relative (my nephew, as it happens).

I would now like to generate a narrated tree for this person (call her “Jane Doe”). But if I use “related to Jane Doe” I (of course) get pretty much my entire research, because of the link through my nephew.

Is there a way to block the “related to” process from entering a given node (in case the family node joining Jane Doe to my nephew)?

Of course, I can obviously remove her from the marriage, create the report for her, and add her back afterwards, but that’s a very ugly way to do it.

I use a set of grouped filters.

Filter 1:

  • Ancestors of <person>

Filter 2:

  • Descendants of <filter> match (Filter1)
  • People matching the <filter> (Filter 1)
  • Option: At least one rule must apply

Adding Filter 1 back in makes sure the endline grandparents are included. They are not their own descendants.

Filter 3:

  • People matching the <filter> (Filter 2)
  • Spouses of <filter> match (Filter 2)
  • Option: At least one rule must apply

You actually run Filter 3. I have a variation that includes more of the in-law families of spouses if any.

I keep these in my collection of filters. All you need to change it is to set a new base person.
