I have found accessing the translation of Discourse postings to be unpredictable. Could we share our experiences to discover the pattern?
Sometimes, Discourse on Firefox automatically translates foreign language postings to English… my native language for the the OS. Sometimes, selecting a Translation option from a context/hamburger menu translates successfully. Sometimes, selecting the translation pops to the top posting of the category and reports that translation does not have access to the page. Sometimes, no translation sevices are available in the menus.
Google Translation service for URLs is at least consistent. They fail consistently for Discourse (and other social forums) sites because the dynamic content delivery is incompatible with Google’s URL re-writing scheme.
What’s the other pattern? (I might be misrembering which platform was being used: mobile vs desktop for different behaviors.)
I’ve recently discovered that the Pull-to-refresh gesture on Firefox for my Android smartphone will offer to enable auto translation for a session.
And Perplexity tells me that the Discourse personal settings has a localization option… if enabled for the site.
