Gramps 6.0.8 on Windows 10.
I am new here, and still getting the hang of how to use Gramps.
I got into genealogy about 20 years ago, after the birth of my daughter, but I set it aside for almost 20 years, due to daily demands of life.
Now I’m back into it, and I’m trying to do it the right way, making sure I have citations for every piece of data that I enter, and I am attaching an image of the documents to every citation.
That said, I’m still learning how to properly enter everything.
If anyone has simple “Best Practices” they can recommend, I’d love to hear them.

You can learn a lot by reading through many of the old questions posted here.
I don’t keep copies of the documents as many of the originals are not available and many can’t be read anyway, however, I keep a copy of the transcribed record in a note in the citation. They are nearly always available. I also copy the link into the vol/page field in case I have to go back to it
As you create Place names in the database, make sure you include the Lat/log in the record or the mapping feature will not work.

That’s a good idea to include the transcription. I’ll have to look into that. Although I do like to have the original image, because I’ve found that some transcriptions have errors (especially with messy handwriting)
I tried the mapping feature a few days ago, and it did not work. Now I know why. Thanks for that bit of info.
The community has produced many Gramps Tutorial Videos. And they can really flatten the steep learning curve.
I watched a few on youtube. It’s how I got my sea legs, so to speak, but I quickly found that some videos were just as clueless as I was, or if they were knowledgeable I ended up falling asleep, and had to start over. (Not entirely their fault, I was tired)
Perhaps these will be of more use to me. Thanks! I’ll watch a few of them.
I admit that I play tutorial videos at 2x speed or better. (Wish that YouTube offered a correction to original pitch for the chipmunk voices.)
