Addon Installation Errors

This topic has been raised before.

Where does one actually find the reason for these failures?

The message returned by the installer is cryptic at best; “Installation Errors - Gramps” and another line repeating the same message with the addon name(s) then a “close” button.

Man gramps(1) suggests that -d --debug=LOGGER_NAME might be used and states

“Enable debug logs for development and testing. Look at the source code for details.”

Which raises the next question - where? That manual page seems to be long out-of-date.

And then raises a further question: in a previous message on this subject @Nick-Hall suggests using the Prerequisites Gramplet to show the requirements for third-party addons. The checker should be located where? it’s doesn’t appear in the Gramplets drop-down list.

I’ve been using Gramps for a long time without the need for the extra functions that can be provided by addons and now I see some which might be useful but cannot install them.

Please could the maintainer(s) include some comparatively simple error logging mechanisms in the addon installation code.

Thanks
