Several years ago I phototagged a lot of images in my tree using reference regions to identify individuals in the group photos. Coming back to it, I’ve upgraded gramps to 6.0.6; but all the phototagging has disappeared.
How can I avoid a mammoth task of re-doing it from scratch? Where is the information held and how can I transfer it from an earlier gramps version of the tree?
You did not mention re-installing the Phototagging addon after upgrading?
If you look at the Gramps Data Model diagram, the MediaRef record is attached to a Person, Family, Event or Place reccord. And it includes a rect information which defines the rectangular marquee box. So this data was stored within your tree database. It should not have been lost.
However, Gramps will probably need to regenerate the Thumbnails if a Tree (and its media) are moved to another machine.
Sorry again: I find I can only view the reference regions for the images in Media. They’re not displayed when I select an image in the Gallery for a Person or Event. That’s how I used to view them. Now, if you have an image in a Gallery, you need to find the particular name of the image and then check it up in Media in order to see whether it has any reference regions.
You may need to use the addon to regenerate Thumbnails. (Guessing here. Because I have not experimented enough with this feature to have lived though a machine upgrade.)
@Nick-Hall is the developer of the addon. (Looked that up in the Addon List in the Gramps-project wiki)
Does @DougRB need to file a Feature Request about this? And possibly do some isolating (or provide sample files) where the Thumbnail regeneration needs be extended to Galleries beyond the People category?
