Split panes for gramplets

Gramps 5.1.5 on linux mint 20.3
Seems like ther has been a possibiility for displaying two gramplets in one pane in gramps 3.xxxx
Is it possible in 5.1.1?
Tried to google it, but cannot find anything.
I would like to see both forms and gallery in the bottom pane, without having to switch tabs

Welcome

Not sure if this would help, but you can detach any Gramplet from the bottom (or side) bar so they float.

Simply click on the tab and hold it to drag it off the bar. When you close the gramplet it will return to the bar. While detached, they remain visable while switching between views.

The workaround of undocking (aka detaching, tearing off) Gramplets is the only method of simultaneously seeing more than 1 Gramplet per split pane. (Detached Gramplets have an additional benefit: the bottombar has a Help button to opens the Wikipage for that Gramplet.)

The split panels are locked into the mode of stacked Gramplets tabs. Those containers only display 1 Gramplet at a time.

As you stated,Version 3 is where the split panels were introduced. Before that, Gramplets lived in the Dashboard view. Initially the splits behaved similarly to the Dashboard and allowed laying out multiple Gramplets in multiple columns. But the consensus was that this overcomplicated the GUI and taxed performance too heavily. (Gramplets in the underlying tabs are inactive and should not be using excessive computing power by refreshing.)

It is strongly recommended that you be aware that Gramplets bog down the main view. And some Gramplets (like Deep Connections) are heavy resources hogs.

For confirmation, start with the third paragraph in the Gramplet general usage and Configuration section.

n.b., Python has traditionally had problems with multi-threading too. So making dedicating processing of particular panels to certain cores hasn’t been an option. The Python version scheduled to release in Oct.2022 promises to improve threading controls for multicore processing. But that might turn out to be wishful thinking. And Gramps would have to be re-tooled for that version of Python.

That certanly helps.
Thanks
