Is undocking (detaching) a Gramplet more fussy in 5.2?

Has undocking a Gramplet from a sidebar or bottombar become more fussy? (The Dashboard gramplets have different rules.) Or am I mis-remembering?

I seem to recall drag’n’drop having more valid places to drop a Gramplet tab.

For undocking, there are:

  • the Title bar of the Gramps application
  • a Titlebar of a floating (non-modal) Gramps window … such as an undocked gramplet or the Configure View dialog (listed in Gramps’ Windows menu)
  • the Menu bar of the Gramps application
  • the Tool bar of the Gramps application
  • the Status bar of the Gramps application

For re-ordering there are:

  • the sidebar or bottombar tab areas within the same category view. (Allows changing the tab order when dropping on the tab area of the same splitbar. Also allows moving a tab from one splitbar to the other to take advantage of extra horizontal or vertical space.)

The (new?) invalid dropzones:

  • the Navigator sidebar
  • the display area of the active view category
  • the display area of a floating (non-modal) Gramps window (listed in Gramps’ Windows menu)
  • the display area of the sidebar or bottombar (Activating this key area that would make dropping seem less fussy. But it might have been disabled as a drop area to decrease accidental undockings when intending to resize the bottombar.)
  • screen areas outside the Gramps application window or items listed in the Windows menu of the Gramps application. (Including second monitors)

I think there was a major bug related to dropping in the tab areas of the sidebar or bottombar when a different view category was active. And so that behavior was disabled intentionally.

This could also be a Linux vs. Windows OS difference. I was using Windows for most of the years I’ve been a Gramps user.

(Gramps 5.2.1 and Fedora 37)
