There are Preferences in the tab that require a restart:
- Data tab: Date format
- Data tab: Age display precision
- Data tab: Display ages for events after death
- General tab: Show text labels beside Navigator buttons
- addon Themes tab: Fixed scrollbar (requires restart)
(Adding views via the Addon Manager also requires a Restart)
Is there a chance that parts of the interface can be restarted without the user having to quit, restart and reload the tree?
Switching category view modes causes a container and data fresh. Could an automated category flip refresh some of these?
The Navigator has a switching function. Could switch modes allow the the labeling change?
If the Restart cannot be avoided, perhaps a ⟳Reload button could be added to the Preferences?
Perhaps this could trigger a batch of operations: close Gramps (perhaps suppressing the backup upon exit if the tree is ‘dirty’), relaunch Gramps with the same tree and the same view active (setting the tree as ‘dirty’ if the backup had to be suppressed).
A ⟳Reload might open a future opportunity for Locale switching tab in Preferences (Which could be suppressed if the system has only the default English installed.) And, even further in the future, adding language Dictionary and Translation installation/updating within the Gramps GUI.
