Today I did an export. Reports>text reports>pedigee report (translated so might be named differently)
It is incomplete. A male was born before his parents were married. But legally recognised when they married. All the other pedigree exports I have previously seen outside Gramps also follow the father. But the text export I did cut the tree off and does only mention the father (not his parents and the rest). Is this known behavior? If so, on what grounds is the father excluded? And if it is in error that he is left out, could that be fixed. I have quite a few unmarried females that became a mother, where the child was legitimized later. For all of them their pedigree text would be cut off in this export.
I am not sure which report you are using, but here is a possible reason. Is the person a child in more than one family in Gramps? Some parts of Gramps use a function that finds a person’s parents by getting the person’s “main” family, which is simply the first family in the person’s list of families (in which they are a child). I guess it is assumed that the first family will always contain both birth parents. But if the person’s first family contains only his mother, and the second family contains both parents, then the father could be excluded.
Well yes, since the person was born, knowing only its mother, there are two families involved. But the export does show the father. So it ‘knows’ the father is involved in some way. But the export doesn’t follow the fathers pedigree. Since the father is known, it would seem natural to follow his line as well.
I think you might be running the ancestor/Ahnentafel report. It looks like it checks the parent/child birth relations. In that case, it makes sense that the father was included. The reason why the father’s parents were not included might be because of those relations not being set to “birth”.
If it helps, this is the one I used. Reports > graphic reports > pedigree diagram. But I don’t know the English name of the plug-in that’s creating this.
The father is related as a child to his parents So showing child, father, mother. Then branching for each of them into their respective parents, etc.
If I go into the Graphs section of the main program, the child is connected to his father by a dotted line, but his ancestors are shown (as far as I have found them). So there is a difference how the relationship is treated between the export and the Graph as presented directly by Gramps.
Thank you for the screen shot. In your first post you said “Reports>text reports” but now it is clear you are running the graphical pedigree report, which uses the concept of “main” family and draws a dotted line for non-birth relations, like the graph view in the main program. I don’t know why the results are different.
I Google translated Kwartierstaatdiagram to Pedigree chart. Is this the report?
I used the data.gramps test database and gave Edwin Michael Smith a second parental family using his parents again, the only difference being there is no marriage event and the family type is Unmarried. I reordered the parental familes so the Unmarried set was primary, first, followed by the Married family.
The father’s line printed in the chart. Even changing the Paternal relationship did not alter the report.
This is the way I do it:
We have a mother who is unmarried, no known partner and gives birth of a child. So I make a family containing only the mother and connect the child.
Then later the mother marries and the new husband legitimizes the child. So I make a new family, man and the mother. And add to that family the child. The child now has a birth record and a record for the legitimizing.
Within the mother you now see a relation to ‘unknown’ first and then the marriage to her husband.
Since we have no record if the new husband is actually the father (in this case research has shown he is an unlikely candidate) I can’t add him to the first ‘unknown’ and mark them as being unmarried.
As to text versus graphical report, the result is actually the same.
