It looks like you did not click Load Family Tree button after making a Tree with the New button.
That could be verified if your screen capture had included the Status Bar at the bottom of the window. That is blank if no Tree is loaded. But it would show “People Tree View 0/0” at the lower right if an empty tree was loaded. (That 0/0 means the ‘filter’ in the People Tree View shows zero people … out of a Tree containing zero people
