Merge citations with matching images

6.0.1:

I had a gedcom given to me that had a bunch of citations with no notes but did have images that were linked to events; Is there a way to modify mergecitations.py to do the same as matching notes but also matching images? Cause right now it merges all these citations and images into one citation.

Are you asking about adding another option to the Tools → Family Tree Processing → Merge Citations Tool?

Yes. I have lots of citations that all they have is like 1900 U.S. census and a media file attached and person who did the gedcom was a splitter and didn’t use citations, just attached media, about 3000 of them. I’ve been playing around with filters trying to merge them. The MergeCitation tool seems it would be easier and a lot faster.

Noticed that the dialog mentions 3 items.

If you’re asking for a checkbox for Media objects in addition to the existing Notes checkbox, might as well expand the request to “Data items” too. (Although that term is unclear. What kind of items are “data”?)

And, since there would be 3 items, the checkboxes could be grouped to simplify the labels.

Finally, it looks like it could use some extra intelligence. It seems like Citations could still combined if the secondary object lists are identical.
