Looked through preferences but nothing obvious to set. When the people page is first presented it lines up at the home person but with the nodes expanded. Happy as to where it opens but can the initial page have the nodes collapsed on first display.
I take it that you are opening in the Grouped People view. This tells me that in Preferences, you have the Remember last view displayed on the General tab. If the “last view” was unchecked, you would always open in the Dashboard view.
When you first go to (or open on) the Grouped People view, you are opening on a person’s record which is within a grouped surname. That surname’s node will always be open. All other surname nodes will be closed until you open it.
There is an addon, Restart Where You Were Last Working that will open on the last record, in the last view, from the last time you used Gramps. When installed, it totally works in the background.
Perhaps you are speaking of the Charts category with the Pedigree view?
Let’s clear up a minor misperception first…
The Edit → Preferences have Global settings.
The View → Configuration has setting that are specific to the current view and its active gramplets.
So to gain access to the number of generations control for the Pedigree view, you would make it the Active View. Then choose the Configure toolbar button or View menu item.
With sincere apologies being slow in replying to thank people for their replies but I very much
appreciate the help from others and them taking time out to reply. I have amended the Remember last view displayed and will when next on look into the Restart addon.
