I tried to import GEDCOM from TNG but it missed a lot.
Does anyone have experience importing from TNG ?

When you write that “it missed a lot”, this does not give enough information to understand what is missing nor where data was lost in the workflow from TNG to Gramps.
Data could have been excluded during export from TNG. TNG could have written bad or non-standard GEDCOM. It could have written a different version of GEDCOM then Gramps expects. Gramps could have a problem with the data structures.
So, you might want to start with sending the GEDCOM through a validator. The GED-inline validator is an online tool that will identify the version of GEDCOM format and give some statistics on the dataset.
If things look good there, how about telling us what kind of data is ‘missing’. And when the GEDCOM import in Gramps does not support/recognize a GEDCOM data structure, it gives an error message and stores the data as a generic block of text. (It does not discard that data.) So give us a sample of any errors and a chunk of the problem data.
When there have been GEDCOM problem thread in this forum before, troubleshooting often require opening the GEDCOM in a text editor and exploring.

When importing that gedcom file to Gramps following errors occured.
One thing that was missing after import were all images for persons (portrait images) … they were in place in TNG.

What version of TNG are you using?
Can you paste the first 10 lines of the GEDCOM file here?
Have you downloaded the images to your computer in the same place, the GEDCOM file is only text.

I have created a subdir where all my images are stored and also my gedcom file ( kilp.ged) … still I don’t get the images in Gramps …
For the images, it’s important to know how they are referenced by the GEDCOM. Can you figure that out? Their names can probably be found in FILE lines.
I also noticed that you got a suggestion to use a different character set. Can you do a new export in UTF-8 format? I know that TNG version 12.3 can do that, so I assume that yours can too.
The other thing to clarify is what you mean by ‘missing’ images.
There are 2 levels of ‘missing’. So we need to know which problem we’re chasing.
Are there a bunch of broken links icons in the Media category with the broken link icon showing in the Relationships view, Person editor, & gallery tabs?
Or is the Media category just empty?
There are tools in Gramps for fixing broken links. So hopefully that’s where your problem lays.
Note that GEDCOM 5.5 does not transport media object files. To transport those files to another machine, you need GEDCOM7 ZIP or the files have to be moved manually. (Gramps does not support GEDCOM7 yet. So we’d have to do a different workaround.)
There is an interesting thread in the TNG support forum discussing a number of idiosyncrasies in TNG’s Media file handling… both on GEDCOM and thumbnails vs. file locations.
There may be more on the TNG side that has to be resolved before it will create a normal GEDCOM file.
(Quite a few mentions of users with Gramps in their forums too.)
Images:
I opened my gedcom file (kilp.ged).
There is only one reference with FILE in it, pointing at my gedcom file:

In GRAMPS there is an option to specify where the media is: Edit/Preferences/General/Base path for relative media paths:
where I have specified the folder where my images are … but no images showed in GRAMPS.
Media category is empty.
Character set:
When it comes to character set I can’t find how to make an UTF-8 export in TNG 14.0.1
But I changed ‘Encoding ANSI’ to ‘Encoding UTF-8’ in my gedcom file & saved it. Then I made a new family tree and imported the gedcom file (with UTF-8 line)
but it still got some swedish characters wrong.

H’m, weird. I have a tree on a free TNG site, and when I export from there, I get UTF-8, so I guess there’s a setting somewhere. I don’t have a TNG at home though, so I can only observe what it does on that site.
Anyway, what Gramps meant is that where the CHAR line reads ANSI, you might replace that with CHAR cp1252, so that Gramps knows the actual character set that is used. The wikipedia page for cp1252 suggests that ANSI is wrong, and it should be ANSEL instead. OTOH, if Gramps suggests trying CHAR cp1252, you can better follow that advice, because it looks like we have code for that.
On that free site, I have to set a checkmark to get my images exported, so you may need to do something similar. Another option is to do a search for JPG or .jpg, or whatever format your images have, and see if any such string appears in the GEDCOM at all. And maybe you have an image with quite a unique file name, so that you can search for that.
You may also search for OBJE instead.
You should try to export your data as UTF-8 encoding instead of ANSI.
If that is not possible from TNG, try to convert the file in Notepad++ and change the Encoding to UTF-8, or download Ancestris and try to convert the gedcom there.
I think you need to resolve all the codepage errors before you try to solve any other problems with the export/import.
I had a lot of similar problems with my gedcoms from Legacy until I got them properly encoded as 5.5.1 UTF-8, resolved approx. 4800 import errors and first then I managed to get my document/image links right without doing it all manually.
A benefit of using UTF-8 will also be that you get ÆØÅ and other Scandinavian characters correct, so you don’t need to manually correct all the names and place names…
Looks like you need to convert your TNG installation before you can output your GEDCOM in UTF-8!

You can try to export in ANSI, import to the free version of Legacy or Rootsmagic and export to 5.5.1 UTF-8 from one of those software.
Or try to open your existing gedcom with Ancestris and see if it can repair/change the problematic sections and then export it to a new gedcom file.
Reason I was mentioning UTF-8 was because of all the faulty place names in your error message, and with so many errors, it can be that you also had som Scandinavian characrters in your media links or that a “newline” character in the gedcom got corrupted or a “pagebreak”/“linebreak” character in one of your notes got corrupted and make the gedcom wrongly coded.
If you can see valid Swedish characters on TNG now, there is no need to go further than what I wrote earlier, which is changing CHAR ANSI to CHAR cp1252. It’s a quick hack, and you can see if it works in a minute or so. UTF-8 is not needed at all. It makes life much easier if you want to work with other characters, like Arab, Chinese, Greek, but if you don´t have those now, cp1252 is OK.
I can see swedish characters in TNG but gedcom-file that exports from TNG have not correct swedish characters.
I run Gramps in Linux where I have following:

OK, I get it, but I need to tell you, that when you load a text file into an editor, or viewer, that editor makes an assumption about the character set, and if that assumption is wrong, you don’t see the right characters, even if they are right in the file. You can sometimes correct this, by telling the editor about the character set that was actually used. You may also try an octal dump of the file, with the od command, or let the file command figure out what the file contents actually are.
If the file format is cp1252, or ISO-8859, a name like Göteborg is 8 bytes long, because the ö is coded as a single byte, with decimal value 246. In UTF-8, that same value is encoded into two bytes, with decimal values 195 and 182. And that’s something that you can only see with a program like od, or an editor that doesn’t try to interpret things on its own.
In the error log that you posted 2 days ago, I see Lidköping, where I expect to see Lidköping, which suggests that the encoding is UTF-8, because you see two characters for the ö, but even that can be misleading, because this is how the name is displayed after it’s gone through several processing steps. And if it were UTF-8, it would help to replace CHAR ANSI with CHAR UTF-8. Have you tried that? You mentioned Encoding, not CHAR.
Regarding “Encoding” vs. “CHAR”
This is the same when it comes to the gedcom metadata information, but it does not help to set the “CHAR” to ANSEL, CPxxxx or UTF-8 if the real encoding of the file itself has been done with ANSI.
The actual encoding and the “CHAR” setting in the gedcom file, must be the same.
You should be able to see the file encoding in Linux, I don’t know how, but I know people do it… if not, you can see it in notepad++ and most likely in other similar editors.
Other than that, I agree with Ennos’ suggestion about try changing the CHAR to cpxxxx or UTF-8, just to try…
But do it on copies of the file. And do it in a Text Editor similar to Notepad++. I don’t know the “best” one for Linux.
