I would like to know how to format names so that I can generate reports that show both the Americanized name and the Yiddish original, e.g. “Bessie Fox (Baszka Fuksman).” I am quite new to Gramps and brand new to this forum, so please forgive me if this topic has been answered before. ( Gramps 6.0.5, Mac Sequoia 15.6.1)
Welcome!
Gramps will allow a user to add multiple Name Records to each person. However, most reports will only display the name that is slotted as the Preferred Name. I use the Complete Individual report for my own use and the Narrated Web site to send to cousins. These reports can include these additional names.
In the person’s edit window there is the Names tab. This is where additional names can be added. Editing or adding names here will open the full Name Editor.
So… depending on the report, either you can enter multiple names or add the multiple names in a single record. Something like this.
When looking at the display name in the example, I have my default Name Format set in Preferences to Given “Nickname” Surname, Suffix.
Mmh! I’d rather add an Alternative Name because I use the Family Names entries for compound names, one component per line (e.g. [ von =prefix Thurn =surname] [ und = prefix Taxis =surname] as two lines).
Here, I’d have Bessie Fox as the preferred name and Baszka Fuksman as an alternative name and perhaps a third one using a different alphabet. All these names appear one after another at top of NarratedWeb pages.
I also add Citations to where I found the alternatives. It helps me guess about the history of name evolution/adoption. This is sometimes very surprising.
I do the same. The problem is that some (most??) Reports only display the name in the Preferred name slot which was @shirleywerner 's major concern.
Kari Kujansuu @kku has shared an experimental “Name Format” addon in his personal GitHub repository. It is not yet distributed though the Addon Manager. You would have to download and install it manually.

Thanks to all of you for your interesting and varied solutions! I very much appreciate your answers.
