Hourglass Trees

I have merged two family trees A & B. Hourglass Trees of family tree A show both parents of the center person, but only ancestors of one parent. Hourglass Trees of family tree B show both parents and ancestors of the center person. Respective families and ID’s appear to be correct. Is this correct, or is there a procedure that I have missed please? Regards Tim

When you say you merged trees A & B, did you actually merge the records common to both databases?

How can John’s ancestors be shown, including the ancestors of Joan please?

@Timwynnjones Please check your private messages. You PM’d me and I gave you an option and asked some questions. Feedback is needed if you are making any progress in resolving your initial questions.

To do this, I would make a person filter to select the people that I want to be shown. Then run a relationship graph using this filter.

Just ask if you need clarification of these steps.

Yes you can. This from the example data.gramps file with a few more mother side ancestors. I created this using the menu >> Reports >> Graphs >> Relationship Graph. The filer was Ancestors of Edwin Michael Smith

  1. Which report did you use to create the chart above?
  2. If you put Craig as the active person and go to the Pedigree view under Charts, do the grandparents, great-grandparents, etc display?

The Relationship Graph sets up a few pre-defined filters based upon the Active Person.
