Dear all, I would like to have the places (birth or death) to be displayed for each person. I am struggling how to make that work in this version. Is it possible at all? Thanks!
Welcome!
You do not say which view (navigation category) you are using. I will assume the People view.
In the icon toolbar, there is the Configuration icon
or in the menu View >> Configure… You can select which columns to display. While in the config view, you can also drag-n-drop the columns into another order for your use.
Every view has this configuration option specific to the view.
Dear Dave, Excuse my poor vocabulary
I am not very technical. When I am in CHARTS/PEDIGREE VIEW - and one can see somehow the graphical tree - there in each person I would like to see the place of birth and possible death, as well as there is the name and year of birth and death… But also, when I do a report, or export a pdf as family tree (graphic) so that one can see who each person was, the years and the place. Is that possible?
The Pedigree view does not allow place information.
There is the Graph View which does allow place information. The view is an addon that you can easily install from the Addon Manager.
or from the menu, Edit >> Addon Manager… Once installed, you will need to restart Gramps for the view to become available in the Charts category. You can configure generations both up and down from the active person. The All Connected option expands the view to include aunts and uncles to the tree.It can get very large quickly and is limited to 1000 people.
The view can be exported (printer icon).
Similar to the Graph View there is the Family Tree View. To add this view you need to add it the the Addon Manager’s Project tab.
https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ztlxltl/FamilyTreeView/dist/gramps60
It too is highly configurable and can be exported or printed.
The config options for that chart view are limited, there’s no option to add date and place of birth / death to that view. More experienced Gramps users might be able to suggest a workaround.
There are a number of text and graphical reports available. Not all of them will include the place information.
There is the Graphs Relationship Graph which may need to be filtered (depending on the size of your tree).
Graphical Reports Ancestor Tree or the Family Tree
Trees Ancestor Tree or the Granfparent Tree
And do not forget the Text Reports Ahnentafel Report
Many of these reports will require you to experiment with all the various options. One option often overlooked is to play around with the paper size for the graphical reports. If you print these reports to PDF’s you can make the custom size much larger to accommodate the full chart.
As you experiment, do not hesitate to ask for help here.
Dear All, thanks for the tips - but when I open the Addon Manager - and i type: Graph View, sadly it doesn’t show.
Basically, what I would really like is to have a look at my entire tree at once and see where do the people are from, visualy like a map. I see there are the individual reports, etc… but what would be useful is the tree showing the place.
In the Addon Manager, confirm that on the Projects tab, the Gramps https://raw.githubusercontent.com/gramps-project/addons/master/gramps60 is checked, then go back to the Addons tab. Refresh the manager (lower right corner).
Under the search field, there are 5 filter options. All addons, Gramps, View, Everyone, Stable.
Graph View should be there.
Select a base person then select the Ancestor Map in the Geography category. Of course you must supply the Latitude and Longitude for each place record for this to work.
You can right-click in the middle of the map to select another style of map. Replace… for other options.
You can go to the menu View and deselect the Sidebar and Bottombar for more space for the map.
