Citations (Scotland) - How would you

Unsure if this is the correct Section, so admin please move if required.

Starting out with Geneology, and I understand the Concept of
Repo, Source, Citation.

What I am having trouble with the way Citations should be written.

as an Example for a Scottish Birth, Marriage or Death.

Source - Statutory registers of Birth (Scotland)
Author - Registrat general for Scotland

Citation
Date - XXXX-XX-XX
Volume/Page: (Year) District of Dundee, Ref: 185/2

now if I need to say reference a parent onto this in the future, Id have to remember the above, no?

Is it best practice to

Volume/Page: (Year) District of Dundee, Ref: 185/2 - Name of Person its related too
or just
Volume/Page: (Year) District of Dundee, Ref: 185/2

I do not see the need to add the person’s name if the citation can be properly identified without it. After all, the citation is attached to the person’s event.

For me it is not adding the parent to the Citation but to the Event
which automatically references the same Citation

Cheers for the replies folks.

At the moment, If say birth cert has a proper citation without a name at the end, then when going through the Parents, or witness, its trying to remember which citation it was in the first place. Currently in the middle of sorting through them at the moment and correcting them

@DaveSch Just out of curiosity, the Scan of the certificate itself, is that attached to the Citation, or Person? Curently I have it attached to the Citation

I too attach it to the Citation.

I use the NarrWeb to send cousins information on their branch of the tree. The NarrWeb shows images wherever placed in the database. Not every report does this and limits images to the person or to the event and not citations.

If I have a birth cert I use Forms to enter the data and the image is
with both, Citation (from the Form) and Event(manually added)
If I only have a Registration from an index I do not create a Citation
just include details in a Note
