In the past I have erroneously named one event-type (180 times). So I thought to change the name by using the ‘Clean type’ option. However when opening that, the list it presents doesn’t contain the event-type I am looking for. (And several others) I have checked and double checked. It is there in the event category, this is why I know I used it 180 times. So why is that and how can I change this type.
The Type Cleanup tool identifies custom types and allows the user to rename or delete no longer needed types.
The Rename Event Types tool will work on both built in and custom event type. The problem with both tools, it is an all or nothing function.
Using either tool will change every event from one type to another. You may not want that to happen.
In the Event view, you can filter based upon the event type in question. If every event needs the desired change, no problem. The Rename Event Types (RET) will do the job.
However, if not every event needs changing, you need a way to have the tools recognize a difference. Depending on the events with the fewest number, either changing or staying the same, edit those events to the type “Event_X”. If the remaining “Event” is going to the new type, use RET to change them. You can then use the Type Cleanup to change “Event_X” either to the new type or back to just plain “Event”
As with any batch editing, please make sure you have a recent backup of your database. There is no undo from batch edits if you later regret your actions.
You might want to try the Tools → Family Tree Repair → Rebuild Secondary Indexes
Then restart Gramps.
If the custom event type (for those 180 events) do not show up in the Tools → Utilities → Type Cleanup tool, maybe it can be found in the Events category Filter gramplet’s Type popup?
