Adding County to place name

Is there a way to have gramps use County on a county name if its the first part of a location, but just the name when in the second location? So Charlotte becomes Charlotte County, Florida but stays Charlotte in Punta Gorda, Charlotte, Florida. I’ve tried entering an Alternate name but this didn’t help.

So that sounds like you want the place display for the enclosing places to override and use the top abbr language?

And maybe have a keybinding toggle between that and the current default 'Full" format for Display Preferences?

This was asked a couple years ago but no solution. Is there a way to have the place name show
Charlotte County, Florida, United States if primary place and Punta Gorda, Charlotte, Florida, United States if town is primary place name? The reason I’m asking is if I use the name Charlotte County and then it comes out Punta Gorda, Charlotte County, Florida, USA. I know I can do this the way it was done back in version 4.0 manually.

I too would like County appended to the place name when the county record is the primary place record selected for the event’s place field. Currently I use the abbreviation Co for county records. I hate seeing Los Angeles, California as the listed place and not knowing is it the County or the City.

There is a model for place enhancements, GEPS 045: Place Model Enhancements, with the goal of implementing it in Gramps 5.2. Obviously we are past that milestone. @prculley made an attempt to implement the changes. GEPS 045 - a second attempt at enhanced places.

Personnellement, en tant que français, je n’aimerai pas qu’un truc de ce genre s’affiche (Personally, as a French guy, I wouldn’t like something weird like this to be displayed)

Hi

I would agree there are a number of Examples in England and Ireland
North & South where the current system works fine
England
County Durham (Type Historic County)
Durham (Type City)
So Place is Durham, County Durham

County Down (Type Historic County)
Bangor (Type City)
So Place is Bangor, County Down

In both cases above this is how it would be used orally and in writing

I do not have a lot of Places in the US so I continue my system with
apologies to US Citizens
County of Los Angeles (Type County)
Los Angeles (Type City)
So Place is Los Angeles, County of Los Angeles

So for me if there is to be a change/improvement then it has to be
configurable off.
