Gramps 6.0.5 - Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 OS.build 26100.6584

I have used Gramps for some years but recently had to change my computer to Windows 11 Pro.

I installed Gramps 6.0.5 but when trying to open it I get a text box headed “cx_Freeze: Python error in main script” with the following:

Can anyone help ?

Was this a brand new install of Windows 11 or an upgrade from a previous version of Windows 10?

Do you use cloudbackup software or thirdparty antivirus programs?

Is an old version of Gramps still installed?

Does the folder 'C:\Users\swool\AppData\Roaming\gramps’ exist?

Hi Dale,

Gramps needs exclusive access to its program and datafiles and both of those programs may be causing issues for example your antivirus program may be blocking Gramps as it brand new and is treating it like a false positive that you can report directly via program. For both programs to give Gramps exclusive access you may need to exclude the folder and for the antivirus use this guide

Another option is to pause OneDrive while using Gramps and see it that help.

This points to a potential permission issue with Gramps , did you install using admin ( select the program installer then right click and select “Run as Administrator” ?
