Question about Event Reference Editor

I’ve been using Gramps for awhile and have a question about adding citations to the Event Reference Editor.

I’ve been using the Shared information portion of the dialog since I’m a Lumper, my question is what is the top citation portion of the dialog used for since it asks the same questions as the lower one?

The wiki and help doesn’t give a clear answer.

If you have a shared event, used by several people, each person can have a unique citation for the event.

Twins can share the same event but each have a unique citation for their individual birth certificate.

Shared census records can have a shared citation for the household/family number while each person can have citation based upon their unique line number.

An event reference stores information relating to a person’s (or family’s) role in an event.

You’re asking about a shared event such as the following?

Where there is a Source Citations tab in the Reference information section and another in the Shared information section:

My understanding is that:

  • the lower Shared information would be used for Citations that are common to every sharing instance for that Event.
  • the upper Reference information is for Citations that are specifically proving that Person’s (or Family’s) unique Role in the Event.

That was what I kind of thought, the wiki and help don’t make this clear. Since I’m a lumper, then I’ve been using the right one.

A Gramps 5.0 screen capture of the Event Reference Editor does not have the Source Citations tab in the upper Reference information section. But it exists in 5.2 screen capture.

I found a 6.0 fix for the Source icon not working correctly for that tab.

But I have not yet found where the tab was added. (5.1 or 5.2?) And the wiki has not yet been updated with an accurate screen capture with the added tab.

There is a resolved 2021 Feature Request by @cdhorn that notes a 2023 PR was accepted for 5.2 but it does note identify the PR1391.

0012171: Missing citation_list on EventRef for citing evidence in support of the role played by the person in the event

Version 5.2.0-beta1

Add citations to event references. Under the Highlights section.

Thanks! With that specific phrase, I was able to dig back to the PR.
