Printing family tree

Hello,

Using version 5.1.5, I would like to print my family tree either on A0, A1 or A2. I had a friend already print it once on A2 but the pictures were displayed very small, and I have learned now that it is a matter of setting the right DPI.

However, I’d like to hear if there are other factors that come into play that I should be attentive about (Other settings etc). It seems a lot ends up being trial and error anyway.

Here’s how big it will be :

Thanks a lot

Since you appear to be using the Graph View, you may want to experiment with the type of lines between nodes.

In any blank space, right-click, Choose line Types. I personally like Ortho. With this line type, you may also want to increase the vertical spacing. But with increased spacing results in an increase in height which will be limited by your paper size.

So my friend had the problem that the native resolution of the file. I also do not seem to be able to find a fix. Yes the export options shows me the A1 option, but when I open the PDF and zoom in it’s full of pixels. Is this problem solved with the DPI you think ?

Ok so my issue is that I can’t find an option to resize to fit A1/A0 format on the relationship graphs, the option only shows up for graphical reports

Agreed. The only output is to the SVG file with no way to manipulate the size.

I was just experimenting by taking the resulting SVG file and importing it into a program like InkScape which I run on my WIN10 system. Once imported you can manipulate the overall size of the image to fit for the page size.

Note: Inkscape does not import the images, just the place holders for images displaying a red X. But after saving the resized file, opening the file in a SVG viewer will display the images.

I found a solution here, you can scroll down to a chapter about printing large graphs: Howto: Make a relationship chart - Gramps. But it seems just setting to 600DPI works as well while leaving the dimensions untouched
